The Nasdaq sank 2% on Friday as Netflix dropped nearly 11% post-earnings and Club stock Nvidia fell 10%, entering bear market territory but still up more than 50% in 2024. Following a much stronger-than-expected March retail sales report last month, fresh economic data and six Club stock earnings will take center stage in the week ahead. While lower rates may help stock multiples, that is not a sustainable path to higher equity prices over time. Earnings : The latest quarterly reporting season is starting to ramp into high gear with six Club names set to report next week. Keurig coffee sales in the U.S. reached over $4 billion last year, while Wall Street analysis pegs Nespresso sales at roughly $1.5 billion. The U.S. coffee pods and capsules market is expected to grow to $10.1 billion by 2028 up from $8.4 billion last year, according to market research firm Mordor Intelligence. Environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and compostable coffee pods are increasingly in demand, and have been on the market for a few years, such as NEXE, a packaging solutions supplier based in Canada, which launched a line of compostable coffee pods in the U.S. and Canada in 2021, which it markets as Nespresso-compatible. Getting customer buy-in for new products is also a challenge for companies looking to produce more sustainable coffee pods. Here's a look at what Keurig and Nespresso — the two largest makers of at-home coffee pod systems — have planned for at-home coffee drinkers as part of that push to keep the pods from filling up the garbage.

Each year, coffee companies like Keurig and Nespresso produce almost 50 billion single-serve coffee pods, which are notoriously difficult to recycle. Keurig even says so on its labels. Club Coffee in Canada uses a different approach, making a compostable K-Cup alternative, the PurPod100, out of coffee waste. We also asked a coffee expert: What's the most convenient way to brew while producing the least amount of waste?

Amber Venz Box launched RewardStyle in 2011 with a relatively modest goal: make enough money to move out of her father's house. "I was in my early 20s, living at home, still eating my dad's cereal," Box, now 36, tells CNBC Make It. Box's Dallas-based marketing company, now called LTK, helped pioneer the modern creator economy, connecting influencers and bloggers with retail brands' advertising dollars. It was most recently valued at $2 billion, after a 2021 investment from Japanese investment holding company SoftBank. "We found a defunct business in Fort Worth and drove over in Suburbans and trucks, and loaded up some chairs and some desks," says Box.

But influencer marketers who run student-athlete campaigns are just getting started. Performance is also straightforward to measure, as NIL campaigns typically live on Instagram or TikTok, where "likes" and views can help benchmark engagement. And as more games kick off, we should see a bump in student-athlete marketing activity from previous years, marketers and NIL experts told Business Insider. The company, which worked with NIL firm Opendorse on its first foray into student-athlete marketing, said it also plans to offer career planning and mentorship to players. Student-athlete marketing is more flexible than traditional advertising.

Equities may be trading near their record highs, but there are still opportunities to buy some stocks at bargain-basement prices. To meet this criteria, the stocks had to have a trailing 12 month price-to-earnings ratio less than their five-year average. Additionally, the names also had to have a forward price-to-earnings ratio for the next 12 months that was below the Nasdaq-100's current 17.6. Here are the names that made the cut: PayPal , which has a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 12, was one name that made the list. A hotter-than-expected consumer price index on Tuesday sent stocks reeling, with the Dow posting its biggest drop in a year. In May, Panera announced a CEO transition and said the leadership changes were "in preparation for its eventual IPO" — amid a two-year IPO drought that ended in the fall. Nespresso is brewing up competition in the U.S. coffee pod market. Nestlé's Nespresso, meanwhile, has had more success around the world, in a global retail coffee market that the Swiss food and beverage giant says is valued at about $100 billion. Nespresso's rise comes after the Keurig system took the U.S. by storm a decade ago. The company grew its domestic coffee sales by nearly $3 billion in the four-year span between 2009 and 2013. "There's still over 50 million households left in the U.S. coffee market that we look at and say, 'how do we meet the needs of those users?'"

This year, 59% retailers offer so-called "returnless" or "keep it" policies for unwanted products whose returns costs exceed their value, according to returns services firm goTRG, which surveyed 500 executives at 21 major retailers, including Walmart (WMT.N) and Amazon.com (AMZN.O). That information is "not something that retailers want out there" due to worries the policies could be abused by shoppers, he said. The firm helps retailers manage returns, which typically rise after pre-Christmas sales like Black Friday and Cyber Monday and continue beyond Christmas. The typical return costs retailers about $30. "You just can't afford to ignore it," she said of returns costs.

(Reuters) - Keurig Dr Pepper beat Wall Street estimates for third-quarter sales on Thursday, as higher prices and steady demand for its sodas and drinks helped limit the hit from a slowing coffee business. Keurig Dr Pepper has also largely withstood a trade-down to private label and has not witnessed a decline in demand from the price hikes. Net sales for the third quarter increased 5.1% to $3.81 billion, beating estimates of $3.77 billion, according to LSEG data. However, the U.S. coffee segment remained under pressure, with net sales falling 3.2% to $1.01 billion. Keurig Dr Pepper, however, reaffirmed its fiscal 2023 adjusted earnings per share to rise 6% to 7% and net sales to grow 5% to 6%.
